So yesterday we kicked off the Summer exhibitions in the European Cartoon Center. Although it was raining cats and dogs in Kruishoutem we had a fantastic Greek Style night.
The whole summer (until the 23th of September) you can see the work of the young female Belgian cartoonist Griet and cartoons of two generations of contemporary cartoonists from Rhodos: Vangelis Pavlidis and Michael Kountouris on the walls of the ECC.
GRIET was introduced by her former teacher, mentor and coach Andre Nollet. He pointed out the great personality of this young women and how he is impressed by her humour. He stimulated Griet in a lot of steps in her cartoon career and they became good friends.
In the latest edition of the cartoon magazine ‘Scherper’ an interview with Griet (conducted by Herman Somers) was published.
The Rhodoscartoon exhibition was introduced by the president of the ECC Rudy Gheysens, who was impressed by the work of Pavlidis on his trip to Rhodos in 2010. As he already knew the work of Kountouris and both cartoonists are born at the Greek Island, the idea for the exhibition was born.
It was a wonderful evening, in the presence of a lot of Belgian cartoonists and friends.
