Tonight was the opening ceremony of the 51st cartoon festival of Knokke-Heist.
The guest of honor of this years’ festival was the Belgian comedian and comic writer Urbanus.
So at the festival did take part 516 cartoonists of 72 countries and 1714 entries. The jury selected at about 120 cartoons for the exhibition (on the beach). The winners were: Krzysztof Konopelski (Golden Hat), Ahmet Aykanat (Silvern Hat) and Markus Grolik (Bronze).
At the same time the prize winners of Press Cartoon Europe and Press Cartoon Belgium did get their awards. The Belgian press cartoonist of Le Soir, Pierre Kroll, won for the 3th time the PCB and the Dutch Jos Colignon won the PCE with a cartoon about the Crisis in Europa, published in De Volkskrant.
Except for the prize winners, there were not a lot of cartoonists at the opening, a pitty, because it is always great to see each other again.
