Imagine… Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Dalí, David, Picasso,… protesting at the entrance of a gallery, giving vent to their displeasure at drawings based on Fine Art masterworks. Can cartoons as parodies and pastiches be considered as an expression of real art?
The expert explanation of Peter Nieuwendijk, President-General of FECO, and Bob Vincke, President of the Belgian cartoonist association Kever, could convince the – in our imagination – indignant masters and the more than 300 present invitees during the opening of the exhibition ©ARToons on Saturday September 15th in Mol.
The exhibited cartoons, originally format A4, are enlarged to a dimension of 1 x 0,70 m, intensifying the visual appreciation of the works. The exhibition hall, a kind of modern chapel overlooking a wonderful lake in a dreamy nature, gives an extra dimension to this original event. Many good reasons to make a trip to Mol and… combining this beautiful exhibition with a visit to the Cartoon Center of Kruishoutem, it will certainly remain in your mind as a high level cultural activity.
The cartoons of Emiel De Bolle, André Nollet, Lejon De Borger, Freddy D’Hoop, Jean Gouders, Willem Henkes, Philippe Bossens, Achiel Hutsebaut, Stijn Lauwers, Ronald Libin, Ernest Metz, Mireille Michiels, Peter Nieuwendijk, Ben Peeters, Stefaan Provijn, Willem Rasing Willem), Luc Vernimmen, BobVincke and Fons Vos can be admired on September 22, 23, 29 en 30 from 2.00 to 5.00 a.m. in the gallery of Sibelco, ’t Kristallijn, Blauwe Keidreef 3 at MOL-Rauw.
