The European Cartoon Center is holding a little winter break. Time for the 100% voluntary team to do some refreshing and cleaning of the building and to prepare the year 2014.
We start again on Saturday the 25th of January with the opening ceremony of the exhitbion of the Swedish press cartoonist Riber Hansson and his Belgian collegue of the newspaper De Standaard: Lectrr. Two complete different cartoonists, two different styles, … . It is not the objectif to compare, we just want two artists to show how they look at politics and society themes.
In April we will have the ‘Cartoonfestival of Vianden’ as a guest in the ECC, the theme of their competition ‘the Egg’ suits very well in the activities of the 60 years of the Golden Egg-festival in Kruishoutem. At the same time Marco D’Agostino, winner of the ECC-prize in the Euro-kartoenale 2013 will have a personal exhibition.
The summer time is a time for rememberance: 100 years ago the first world war started and so we set up a historical cartooning exhibition about this Great War.
By the end of the year the ECC’s in house cartoonist: Luc Vermeersch will have a personal show together with the great master Vladimir Kazanevsky of Ukraine.
Besides these exhibition we will also launch the 20th edition of the Euro-kartoenale (by this summer), have a lot of activities for children and adults and you will probably see us a lot wherever there is a cartoon activity in Belgium or abroad.
Wish you a fantastic cartoon year
