The colleagues of the Tourist Office of ‘les Ardennes Brabonçonnes’ do organise press cartoon exhibitions since years.
For this edition of the festival they asked some Belgian Press Cartoonists to focus on the theme ‘Water’. The works were shown in the museum of ‘Water and Fontains’ of Genval, as a celebration for its 25th anniversary, near the beautiful ‘Lac du Genval’. A place full of Water.
Some thirty cartoonists did take hold of their pastels, pencils or charcoal to draw the blue gold. Some despise it, others respect it, and everyone uses it. People from privileged classes consider it as a right, while those lacking it see it as a treasure. The exhibited drawings try to convey the message that everyone has to contribute to its preservation.
All participating cartoonists are Belgian: Pierre Kroll, Nicolas Vadot, Frédéric du Bus, Pad’R, Cécile Bertrand, Sondron, Clou, Kanar, Frédéric Jannin, Cost., Emiel de Bolle, Bob Vincke, Johan de Moor, Serge Dehaes, Olivier Saive, Martin Saive, Palix, Philippe Cruyt, Samuel, Artisteeno, Emile Seron, Balise Dehon, Marco Paulo, Philippe Decressac, Michel Vranckx, Mathieu Gauthy, Vince et Annette Müllender.
At the opening reception and visit to the exhibition we were invited with the participating cartoonists and guests to a diner in the Tower of the Chateau du Lac, were we had a splendid view on the Lake. It was a nice evening with the cartoonists, a specially at our special ‘Belgium Table’ the only table where representatives of the Walloon, Brussels, Flemish and German Speaking part of our beautiful country sat together.
It must be said that the Maison du Tourisme, knows how to bring cartoonists together, and this since 10 years: the first chat between director Josette Champ and the cartoonist Sondron. This needs a celebration!
You can visit the exhibition till the end of August, from September onwards the exhibition starts touring in Wallonia and Flanders.
