Saturday, the 3th of May, heading to one of the oldest remaining pubs of Belgium: ‘t Goudblommeke in papier – La Fleur en Papier Doré) in the old Quartier du Sablon.
The place is amazing … Not because of its typical Brussel Food and Beers, but for its artistic history that you still see and feel in the pub.
It was the place where the Belgian surrealistic painters, as Magritte, gathered. Later the Cobra artists, with Pierre Alechinsky, made it to there favorite place to discuss art and life. And also the comic strip artist Hergé and the writers Louis Paul Boon and Hugo Claus were regular guests in ‘t Goudblommeke in papier.
And now we are here to inaugurate the new exhibition of the Belgian gag cartoonist Norbert Van Yperzeele. Norbert had released his first cartoonbook last year, called: Mixed. It was a real bestseller and a few months later the second cartoon book was born: ReMiXeD (Just wondering which will be the name of the third book, sometimes it seems easier to call them 1,2,3,…).
So there we were in a fantastic place enjoying the funny cartoons of a superb Belgian cartoonist in good company (A lot of old colleagues of Norbert from the Brussels University VUB, friends, cartoonists (f.e. Pol Leurs and Nikola Hendrickx), Brussels politicians, …. were there).
And we just want to remember you that Rene Magritte had an exhibition here, before he became one of the most famous Belgian artists ever. Could this become reality for Norbert too?
Just go and visit the show till the 28th of May in Brussels:
Ps thanks to Gabie (Leurs) for the pictures.
