Friday was the opening and prize giving ceremony of the 26th cartoon contest of Olen – Belgium.
The themes of this edition, ‘cows’ and ‘the right to education’, inspired more than 500 cartoonist from 60 different countries. The jury had to choose the winners amongst almost 1400 drawings.
It was a great evening, although there were less people and cartoonists then the other years. The cartoons were all from a very high quality.
The 1ste prize was for the Italian Paolo Dalponte, 2nd was Negin Naghiyeh from Iran and also the third prize was for an Iranian: Marzieh Rezaei. The 4th prize went to Anon Anindito and the 5th to Slawomir Makal from Poland.

Typical for the Olen contest is that they have a special edition for children under 15th. All winners in this catagory were from China, but the first prize winner (Hu yang) happens to live, with her parents, for a year in The Netherlands, so she was at the opening ceremony.
She was inspired by the Dutch cows that you see everywhere in Holland. She said in fluent English
