From May 29th till June 1st a Belgian delegation of cartoonists and ECC members was invited by Andrus Tamm, chief-editor of the Estonian humour magazine “Pilkaja” and organizer of the yearly international cartoon contest, to come to Tallinn, Estonia, to attend the opening ceremony of the exhibition “Cartoons from Belgium”.
The exhibition is located in the Rahvarinde Muuseum (Museum of the Popular Front, dedicated to a political organization that was the key to Estonia’s independence in 1991) and shows a selection of a hundred cartoons of Belgium’s most popular and meritorious contest cartoonists (Tony Houbrechts, Nikola Hendrickx, Luc Vermeersch, Ludo Goderis, Luc Descheemaeker, Constantin Sunnerberg, Jan Dufour, Luc Vernimmen, Norbert Van Yperzeele and Stefaan Provijn). Also a few Estonian cartoonists like Hugo Hiibus, Priit Koppel, and others, were present and it was great to meet them. Although not many people showed up at the opening, we are sure that the exhibition will be a great success. The Rahvarinde Muuseum is located in the center of the city (at Freedom Square), and the exhibition is open during the whole summer.
In the evening we all celebrated the 50th edition of Andrus’s humour magazine “Pilkaja” in one of the many cellar bars of Tallinn. And of course, besides a few drinks and some tasty food snacks, an evening with cartoonist wouldn’t be one without drawing cartoons and caricatures.
The remaining time of the weekend we spent by wandering in the beautiful picturesque Old Town, enjoying the nice weather and the many sidewalk cafés.
We had a great time in Tallinn, and we are looking forward to read the article about the exhibition in the next edition of “Pilkaja”.

met vijftien eikes blonk;
ze zitten in de boom te spelen,
Estland is weerom ijle en uit.”’
