Last weekend was a great weekend.
On Friday our first prize winning guests were arriving in Kruishoutem: Constantin Pavel and his son of Roumenia and Mohsen Asadi of Iran. Wilson Figuerido of Brazil was all ready in Kruishoutem at that moment.
Saturday was the opening ceremony: first our guests did visit Oudenaarde and the Shoes or No Shoes-museum in Kruishoutem. In the afternoon Marco D’Agostino did arrive from Italy as well. After a light super we all went to the opening ceremony where we met the other Belgian prize winners.
There were speeches from the Mayor of Oudenaarde, the city where the Tour of Flanders do finish next Sunday, and of the Mayor of Kruishoutem. Of course, Herman De Croo, Minister of State was at the opening (he missed only one opening ceremony out of 19).
And then the prize giving ceremony started.
Special mentions for the Italian Angelo Campaner for his great cartoon on the cover of the catalogue, Jorgo Schäfer (Germany) and Peter Ruge (Germany). Jorgo was at the opening and did not know about his special mention, so he was really surprised.
The prize for the Best Belgian Entry was for Nikola Hendrickx and the Best Entry of the European Union for Constantin Sunnerberg (Cost).
Marco D’Agostino did win the prize of the ECC, a personal exhibition in the ECC in 2014.
Third prize for Ross Thomson (who could not be in Belgium because he was at the jury of Marostica), 2nd for Pavel Constantin and the winner was … Mohsen Asadi of Iran. Mohsen was so happy about the prize (non of the prize winners did know which prize they had won).
After the prize winning ceremony we all had a great evening at the exhibition hall, with the local beer Ename.
In spite of the really bad weather (snow) there were a lot of Belgian cartoonists at the opening ceremony: Bob Vincke, Lejon, Ludo Goderis, Norbert Van Yperzeele, Gomaar Andries, Philippe Bossens, Luc De Scheemaeker (o-sekoer), Jan Dufour, Steven Ghyzelings, Nikola Hendrickx, Patrick Heymans, Frederik Michiels, Cost, Jo Van Damme, Luc Vermeersch, Luc Vernimmen, Dawid Wojtalewicz, Ronald Van Ostaijen, … . And of course Pol Leurs (jury member) and Gabie were there.
It was late at night when we went back to bed….
On Sunday our guests did visit Bruges and at the evenening there was a diner party at the ECC.
The first guests left on Monday, Asadi on Tuesday.
It was a wonderful weekend, we made some new cartoon friends and are ready for our 20th edition in 2015. Hope to may welcome you all.
